چکیده
The aim of this study was to screen fish farm water and fishes reared in farms within Abakaliki metropolis for multi-drug resistant Escherichia coli. Exactly 30 samples were obtained from 10 different using sterile bottles January June, 2018. Samples analyzed by standard microbiology methods. Susceptibility test antibiotics done Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion technique. Double-disc synergy used isolates Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL)-production. 54 (60%) E. coli 12 (40%) recovered 90 parts samples, respectively. Isolates exhibited resistance (54% - 100%) ceftazidime, aztreonam, cefotetan, cefuroxime, cefoxitin, piperacillin/tazobactam, ofloxacin, ceftriaxone, but susceptible imipenem (80%), cefotaxime (60%), gentamicin (57%). All the form negative ESBL production. An average multiple antibiotic index (MARI) value 0.71 recorded isolates. High prevalence with multidrug-resistant traits our area is a serious public health concern as will make treatment infections, especially coli-associated foodborne diseases very difficult, thus leading increase care cost, morbidity, mortality. Key words: coli, farm, multidrug-resistance, water, fish.

Phenotypic and genetic diversity of motile aeromonads isolated from diseased fish and fish farms
Samples from the kidney of 100 diseased fish with signs of haemorrhagic septicemia and 50 samples from outlet water of fish farms were taken aseptically and cultured. In the laboratory, 75 colonies of gram-negative bacteria were biochemically diagnosed as motile aeromonads in our Bacteriology Laboratory Unit using API 20E rapid identification system. The genotype identification using specific p...

Background: Pesticides are essential in modern agricultural practices but due to their biocide activity and potential risk to the consumer, the control of pesticide residues in foods is a growing source of concern for the general population. Extensive application of such agents as organochlorine pesticides in farmlands and contemporary agricultural industries has led to undesired environmental ...
متن کاملComparative Cost Structure and Yield Performance Anzlysis of Upland and Mangrove Fish Farms in Southwest, Nigeria
The bias against mangrove areas in siting fish farms prompted a comparison of the cost structure and yield performance in upland and mangrove locations. Tools utilized included descriptive statistics, budgetary and cash flow analyses and profitability ratios. Empirical results revealed that substantial revenue could be realized from both farms. While the upland farms yielded average gross reven...
